When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.

Thanks to the cursed selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O’Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Siren’s Call. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.

Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other in order to quell the raging storm between them or have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.

Portals: Fantasy Anthology Part 2 of 2

I’m a little slow this week. Here is part #2 of the interviews, as promised.

The Eclectic Zaftig Chick

Welcome to the Portals Blog Tour. I’ve asked each author to answer the following question:

Did you use real world elements or was your world completely plucked from your imagination?

I’m huge on world building in fantasy/sci-fi so the question was a no brainer. Let’s see how they faired.

Anna Simpson, author of Mexmur, the Huntress:

Even if you ask a reader to suspend belief, I think they still need to relate to the world where the story plays out. With this in mind, either side of my portal, are similar to Earth’s and also touched on the fairy tale kingdoms most of us know. I basically made a wheel on an imaginary map with the portal in the hub and the kingdoms of Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella, etc. All of them had some sprinkle of magic and depended on the magical source of the…

Portals: Fantasy Anthology Part 1 of 2

Will share Part 2 tomorrow!!

I’m huge on world building in fantasy/sci-fi so the question was a no brainer. Let’s see how they faired

Michael Siciliano, author of The Lunatic Queen:

I used some real world elements.

I came up with a system for creating character names that have a certain cultural feel. I’d find a baby-naming site where the names have been subdivided into culture and gender. I’d search under those preferences and then skim through the result. If one struck my fancy, I’d play with the name a bit by substituting a consonant or a vowel. If that didn’t get the perfect name, I’d substitute more than one. If none of that clicked, I’d consider taking the original name. Such was the…

For the Love of Murphy Blog Tour – Top Two Quirky Romances #BlogTour #Giveaway #Romance

Welcome readers and blog followers 🙂 Always nice to have you come by my little corner of the web.

Murphy_TourButton

As part of the For the Love of Murphy Blog Tour, I’ve decided I’d talk a little bit about the theme of the anthology — Murphy’s Law — by finding out what the authors top two quirky romance movies are.

Since I am one of the authors, I’ll wait to share mine with the others 😛

Here’s what they had to say…

Top Two Quirky Romance Movies:

Michelle Ziegler:
I love the Ugly Truth and The Holiday. I think they’ve got quirk. Too bad my nights are filled with a whole lot of Disney instead of my favs.

London Saint James:
Number two would be an older movie called, Say Anything with John Cusack and Ione Skye. Best quote of the movie was: “I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen.” It was funny, sweet, sad, touching… everything I like in a quirky romance.
And my number one quirky romance movie is: 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The heroine, Lucy wakes up thinking every day is October 13th from the year before and the hero, Henry tries to get Lucy to remember him. Even though this movie had a lot of crazy, funny scenes, it also had some real touching moments that made the movie both quirky and memorable.

Rebecca Hart:
My favorite quirky romance movie was Groundhog Day. I absolutely adore Bill Murray, and I probably watched that movie almost as many times as they repeated Groundhog day in the movie. I’m a sucker for a good romantic comedy.

My second favorite has to be 50 First Dates. Not only is Adam Sandler adorably sweet, I am a huge fan of Drew Barrymore. The plot was inventive, and the romantic elements were sweet enough to make you cry. Laugh and cry in the same movie…a winner in my book.

Lisa A. Adams:
Quirky romance? Um… Juno would probably be the first. It’s so incredibly different and fun. Then, I’d have to say The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. That dance scene in the woods with Sandra and Betty White, yeah I almost fell out my chair.

Annabelle Blume:
My top two quirky romance movies are This Is 40, because it’s such an amazingly honest portrayal of that middle part of marriage, and Fools Rush In, because the jokes are funny and the romance is still adorable seventeen years later.

What about you readers out there?  Do you have a favorite quirky romance we haven’t mentioned? What are some of your favs? Would love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment — sharing is caring *wink*

Coffee and Cufflinks by Annabelle Blume

Fresh out of a failed relationship and exhausted by a constant barrage of fiascos at work, Olivia Johnson doesn’t see the man of her dreams standing right in front of her. She tells herself the morning coffee meet-ups with Daren are nothing but coincidence, but even she can’t deny his unequivocal attractiveness. The Shamrock Incident by London Saint James

Trey Cleary didn’t think his day could get any worse, until he finds. himself picking the side view mirror of his BMW up from the ground. On a mission to do something about it, he locates the flower shop matching the name on the back of the van that mangled his ‘baby’. But, his car is forgotten when a beautiful woman bursts into the room like an out of control whirling dervish, and takes one mother of a wipeout into the shop’s counter. Coming to her aid brings out the hero in him like no one he’s ever encountered, and leaves him with a need to know more.

For Marissa and Trey, this just might be the one time it pays to be unlucky.

The theme for this particular hop is LOVE — Everyone loves love, right? Especially in the summertime. Seems like everyone is either falling in love or getting married when the weather turns warmer. Thinking about love got me thinking about my favorite lovers, Ellie and Daniel. Their love is definitely something special, but then it takes someone special to put up with the headstrong Ellie Winters.

Here is just a little tease from CALL OF THE SEA to illustrate the point.

* * * * *

Daniel stood beside the vicar with Nelson and tried to keep his breathing slow and even. He watched the door to the captain’s quarters so intently his eyes watered. His weight shifted left to right as he adjusted his cravat for the third time in the past minute. What if she changes her mind?

“Would you relax,” Nelson whispered, poking him in the side with an elbow. “Your fidgeting is making me nervous.”

He flashed Nelson a pained look. “Heaven forbid I make you uncomfortable. You know…since this is all about you.”

Nelson grinned wide. “I forgive you, lad.”

The door to the captain’s cabin cracked opened, and Daniel thought his heart would burst from his chest. He leaned forward, searching for Ellie. His pulse raced and his throat tightened. What if she changed her mind? He certainly couldn’t blame her for not wanting to wed an abomination.

Ellie stepped out onto the quarterdeck to a collective gasp from the crew. Jacobs and the new cabin boy, Mac, lifted their cat stringers and began to play, drawing their bows across the strings. in unison. The lilting sound filled the air.

Nelson sucked a whistle of air through his teeth. “Never thought I’d see the day.”

Daniel tried to swallow the lump that formed in his throat. He wiped damp palms on his pants legs as Ellie floated toward him on a cloud of shimmering white satin. He drank her in like a man lost in the arid desert, memorizing every detail of his glorious red-haired hellcat. Everything he had ever hoped for, the culmination of his every childhood wish, walked toward him wrapped in a sea of delectable satin and lace.

The more you have, the more you stand to lose.

Needles of fear prickled his spine. Daniel took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, and smiled down at his petite bride. She’s always been mine to watch over. This just makes it official. He reached out a hand to her. “You look stunning, El.”

She presented him with a heart-stopping smile, cheeks growing pink, and placed her warm hand in his. “Shall we?”

Daniel wrapped his fingers around hers and together they faced the vicar.

All you need to do is answer a question based on the excerpt above — so that means you had to actually read it. If you did, this one should be easy.

QUESTION: What did Nelson never think he would see?
