Six Sentence Sunday: She’s Baaack :P #sixsunday #CalloftheSea

Yes, that’s right. I have returned after a rather lengthy hiatus from the fun and frolic of Six Sentence Sunday. With the release of my debut novel, Call of the Sea on June 21st, things have been beyond hectic over the past month. (In a good way).

Now that I am back on track, as it were, I thought it best to get back into the swing of things.

This week’s six sentences are brought to you by my month long distraction, CALL OF THE SEA, available from Inkspell Publishing, as well as most major online retailers (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, KOBO, All Romance eBooks, The Book Depository).

Since Daniel seems to be a favorite character of most who’ve read the book so far, I thought I would give him the spotlight for today’s tease. 🙂

The columned mansion sat at the top of a hill overlooking the infamous gates of Gibraltar. If it weren’t for the seriousness of the situation, Daniel would have enjoyed the breathtaking view of the narrow gateway into the Mediterranean Sea.

“Just remember why we’re here. Stay sharp, lad.”

Daniel wiggled his fingers, as if he could release all of his pent up apprehension through their tips. “Aye, Captain.”

Thanks for stopping in for a visit. I’ve missed you all 🙂

Don’t forget to click the banner at the top of the post to return to the Six Sunday host site so you can visit with the other authors posting this week.

EXCERPT:

Ellie wandered down the path to the shore, her mind rolling over all she’d learned since her bittersweet homecoming. She twisted a long piece of grass between two fingers while her teeth worried her lower lip. Her toes dug into the thick sand at the base of the bluffs, bringing a smile to her lips. For a moment, she just bathed her senses in the familiar feels and smells of the secluded inlet. Her shoulders relaxed as she let the rhythmic sounds of the surf sweep her into a cocoon of comfort, like being wrapped up in a favorite blanket.

Her eyes drank in the dark beauty of the curling waves, scanned along the moonlit sand, and froze. She squinted into the night, trying to identify the dark shape walking up the beach. Her breath caught.

Daniel. Ellie’s eyes widened. Is he nude? She hunched down, afraid he’d see her. Heat flushed her cheeks. He had something wrapped around him, something dark. Why am I hiding? From her vantage point, she could make out very little of his physique. Pity.

Ellie straightened, chiding herself for behaving like some sort of peeping tom, ogling as if he were one of Jameson’s sweet treats. Curiosity picked at her brain, urged her feet forward once more. What has he been up to?

She quickened her pace, keeping herself shielded from view by the large rock formation separating them. Concentration centered on keeping her breathing calm and slow, she stealthed closer. Ellie tiptoed around the base until she saw Daniel crouched, and still naked, just a few feet ahead.

He stuffed something between the boulders.

She pressed back against the rock wall, stifling a gasp. What’s he hiding? Why here?

Peeking around the corner, Ellie watched Daniel stepped into his breeches. The curve of his left flank caught the moonlight, drawing her attention as he pulled the pants over his lean hips. Her gaze trailed up his smooth muscular chest.

He bent and grabbed his shirt. Turning so his back faced her, Daniel pulled it over his head, blocking her appreciative view of the contours of his strapping shoulders and molded back.

Ellie bit into the heel of her hand, and tried to disappear into the rock face. No man should be allowed to look that good in the buff. Especially one I don’t like.

Dressed again, Daniel ran fingers through his damp hair, looked around.

Ellie held her breath and waited for him to see her. He went swimming? Who swims in the middle of the night? She’d seen no signs of a ship in the bay–no voices bouncing across the water, and no lights floating in the distance. Besides, the bright moonlight would reveal any ship anchored off shore. She stole another look around the giant boulder.

Let me know what you think about the snipit. To celebrate release day, I will give away an eBook copy and a signed Call of the Sea bookmark to one lucky commenter. (Open to US and Canada residents only. Sorry.)

U is for Urges: The Tasty Vittles of Life #atozchallenge #blogging #CalloftheSea

Urges — we all have them. Sometimes we follow them, others we do our best to ignore them. As humans, we are almost slaves to our baser urges. Well, some more than others, I guess.

I wanted to take today to tantalize you with a short excerpt from my soon to be released debut novel, Call of the Sea, set for release June 21, 2012.

I think this snipit aptly defines some of the most basic human urges — Desire and Passion.

A knock sounded at the shed door, jerking his head upright.

Who the hell would be out in this weather?

Daniel pushed back from the table and got to his feet. Curiosity piqued, he swung open the door.

Light spilled out the entryway to reveal Ellie, clad in a dripping wet nightgown, shivering, arms wrapped tightly around herself. Strands of wet hair hung in her wide blue eyes. Her teeth chattered.

His breath hitched. “What are you doing, El?”

“I’m not entirely sure, frankly.” She glanced down at her bare toes, wiggled them before swinging her gaze back up to him. “Can I come in?”

Daniel held the door open for her. “Of course.”

Ellie sucked her lower lip between her teeth, glanced back at the cottage. “Thanks.” She stepped into the shed.

“Is everything all right?” Concern laced his tone. He shut the door and twisted to face her.

She stood in the center of the tiny space, cheeks stained pink, and a growing pool of water at her feet. Her hands fretted with each other at her waist. The thin wet nightgown clung to her curves, leaving nothing of her shape to his imagination, as if he needed the help.

Daniel groaned and snatched a blanket from the bedpost, shoving it toward her. “Here, put this around your shoulders before you catch your death.” And drive me insane.

His fingers itched to touch, explore the bounty laid out before him. He swallowed hard.

Ellie wrapped the blanket around her shoulders and snuggled into it.

Daniel lunged for a chair, pulling it away from the rickety table. He brushed a hand over the seat to free it of any accumulated grime and offered it to Ellie. “Please, sit.”

She sank into the chair. Her doe-eyed gaze swept the modest space. “I’ve not been in here since Papa let you take it over. This is nice. Cozy.”

Daniel shoved his hands in his pockets. What is she doing here? “Thanks.” He noticed the cooled mug sitting on the table. He cringed at his lack of social graces. “Can I get you something to drink?”

“No, no.” Ellie floated up from the seat. She closed the space between them. The look in her eyes, swirling pools of sapphire, hypnotized him. “I’m not thirsty.”

Under her spell, Daniel gaped as the blanket fell away. Her calloused fingertip traced his lower lip and her eyes filled with wonder.

Daniel’s hands surrounded her waist before he realized he’d moved. Her scent, a heady mix of lilac and peppermint spice, wafted up to him. His desire surged. “Ellie?”

The question hung in the air between them for endless seconds. In silent reply, she lifted on her toes and pressed her soft warm mouth against his.

One of my favorite things about Ellie, is how quick she is to give in to some of her urges.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to share your thoughts.

Cover Reveal: Call of the Sea by Rebecca Hart #CotS

Good morning, lovely readers. I have another fantastic cover reveal to share with you today. I am really excited about this one. (Gee, I wonder why :P)

Today’s cover comes from CALL OF THE SEA, Rebecca Hart’s debut paranormal romance to be published by Inkspell Publishing in June 2012. Rather than talk your ear off, I will let the cover speak for itself.

From the back of the book:

Elysandra Winters has always yearned for a life of adventure on the rolling seas and is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.

Thanks to the cursed selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O’Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Surf Runner. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.

Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other if they are to have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.

I just love it. 🙂 Definitely squee! worthy by my standards.

But, you guys out there viewing this post are the readers. What do you think about the cover? Share your thoughts on the cover below. Looking forward to hearing your opinions, so don’t be shy.

Cover Reveal: Call of the Sea, by Rebecca Hart (That’s me!) #CotS #coverlove

I cannot believe the day has FINALLY arrived. It has been near torture waiting to share the cover art for my debut novel with you all. But, time marches on, no matter how slowly, and the 20th of February has arrived. YAY!

Ladies and Gents — the cover for my novel, due out in June 2012 from Inkspell Publishing.

From the Back Cover:

There is no denying the call of the sea.

Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other if they are to have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.

I absolutely LOVE it. The girl fits Ellie so perfectly, and the designer, Naj also managed to give me a little Daniel (selkie) out in the ocean by the beautiful ship.

Be sure to add the novel to your Goodreads To-Read list.

What do you all think? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Six Sentence Sunday: The Curse of the Awkward Silence #sixsunday

Thanks for stopping by for another installment of Six Sentence Sunday. This week’s post is special for me, as the cover reveal for my debut novel is tomorrow. (A Hearty SQUEE for that)

In honor of the unveiling of my paranormal romance, this week’s six sentences comes from the soon to be available (Inkspell Publishing, June 2012), CALL OF THE SEA.

Without waiting for an answer, she[Ellie] headed down the dirt road, keeping her gaze focused on the path ahead and as far from the distracting Daniel as possible.

On a good day, the trek to Newquay was long. The trip with Daniel that morning was pure torture. Neither spoke a word, the silence between them stretching into an impenetrable chasm. Each time Ellie considered breeching it, her thoughts fled, palms got sweaty, and her ears burned. She’d already made enough of a fool of herself on the beach, she saw no reason to add to the humiliation.

Hope you enjoyed the snipit. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, and click the banner at the top of this post to visit with the other participant sites.

Thanks again, my friends, and Happy Sunday!
